OWC Unveils All at CES
(2025-01-07, Boston, MA, Special to the U.S. Times) OWC takes to Las Vegas to unveil a suite of new products and storage solutions at CES 2025, hosting a series of media events throughout the trade show to showcase these upcoming technologies.
One such debut is the ThunderBlade X12, the latest in OWC’s long-running lineup of storage solutions. Offering the best of portability and performance, the ThunderBlade X12 caters to those working with high-resolution content, needing immense storage able to be utilized at blazing speeds of up to 6,500MB/s. With capacities ranging from 12TB to 96TB, this shuttle RAID solution offers support for the most demanding of workflows, including storing 8K video and content tailored for VR production. The OWC ThunderBlade X12 will be available in March.
Other products showcased at CES also include OWC’s Active Optical Cable, touted as the fastest and the most reliable solution for long-distance connectivity, enabling stable 40Gb/s data transfer over distances of up to 15 feet, with support for 8K video. Compatible with most Thunderbolt and USB4 devices, the OWC Active Optical Cable is available now in two lengths, 3 meters (9.8 feet) for $98.99 and 4.5 meters (14.76 feet) for $129.99.
There is also the OWC Thunderbolt 5 Hub. Now generally available on OWC’s website at $189.99, the Thunderbolt 5 hub turns one port into four, offering three Thunderbolt 5 ports and one USB-A port. With speeds up to 80Gb/s, it is designed for those requiring high-bandwidth connections, such as multi-display setups.
However, their headlining announcement is their strategic partnership with Hedge, a software company specializing in workflow tools catered toward media and postproduction. With this joint venture, every purchase of OWC’s Archive Pro Thunderbolt 3 LTO-8 archiving solution will also include a free license for Hedge’s Canister software, an easy-to-use LTFS archiver. A $399 value, Canister streamlines LTO backups with an intuitive drag-and-drop interface, automatic cataloging, and cross-platform compatibility, ensuring a seamless and efficient archiving process.
The OWC Archive Pro, designed for professionals needing to preserve critical data, delivers a comprehensive solution for data backup and archiving. It offers up to 18TB of native storage (or 45TB compressed) per tape cartridge, along with fast transfer speeds of up to 300MB/s, and the added benefit of up to 30-year tape longevity. With the integration of Canister, Archive Pro provides users with an out-of-the-box solution that maximizes efficiency while mitigating risks related to data sprawl and compliance failures.
