TV: Magnum P.I. Coming This Fall

Move over Tom Selleck, there’s a new guy in town and, although we still love you, this new Thomas Magnum  (Jay Hernandez, Bright, Suicide Squad) is about to break a lot of hearts and save the island of Oahu from the bad guys, with the help of his loyal team, Juliet Higgins (Perdita Weeks, Penny Dreadful, Rebellion), Orville “Rick” Wright (Zachary Knighton, Santa Clarita Diet, Parenthood), and Theodore “T.C.” Calvin (Stephen Hill, Boardwalk, Empire). Yep, we think you are history, Tom. Gone but not forgotten. Thanks for your service.

How do you take an 80’s classic and introduce it to a new generation without alienating anyone familiar with the original? Dangerous times. But the new Magnum P.I., coming to CBS on Mondays this Fall is brought to you by the team that gave us Hawaii Five-O, MacGyver, Fast and Furious, and more. Director Justin Lin puts every classic Bond stunt to shame in this new version of the good guys vs the bad guys; the good guys being an ex-Marine Corps Chopper Pilot,  an ex-SEAL, a former British Intelligence MI6 and another “well-connected” friend.  Let’s just say, the bad guys are…well, just unlucky.

Magnum P.I., CBS tells us, is filled with “sun-drenched adventures as our hero takes jobs no one else will with the help of fellow vets T.C. Calvin and Rick Wright and the former MI:6 agent with a familiar last name (but now a female)— Higgins. Based on the 1980s series.” Nuff said. Wait for it…wait for it…too bad we won’t be able to binge-watch it. Every Monday on CBS – this Fall.
